Ellen Sziede Medical Herbalist

Ellen Sziede

Medical Herbalist

I graduated from Heartwood Education with a Diploma in Herbal Medicine with Distinction and I am a practicing member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). Prior to setting up Holos Herbal Practice I worked as a Health Advisor in reproductive health.

Nature has always played an important part in managing my own physical and mental health. Pursuing  training that allowed me to explore the scientific basis for nature's healing capacity and the intricate ways in which it exerts its gentle influence in our bodies has been - and continues to be - a wonderful journey.

I love helping my clients gain a deeper understanding of the factors that affect their wellbeing, and work with them to develop a treatment plan that uses the therapeutic actions of plants to restore function and balance.

About Herbal Medicine

woodland copy.jpg

Herbal medicine is rooted in wisdom accumulated over the centuries, which is increasingly backed up by modern science as we now have the capabilities to investigate the intricate mechanisms by which medicinal plants work. While herbal medicine can be used for acute conditions and minor illnesses and injuries, it is very much a holistic practice - hence “Holos Herbal Practice”, from the Greek word for “the whole”. Medical herbalists treat the entire person instead of the symptom, taking into account your medical history and all the factors affecting your well-being. Herbal medicines also tend to use the whole plant or intakt plant part instead of isolated chemical constituents from the plant, recognising that in many instances nature’s wisdom exceeds our own in creating powerful combinations for healing. A herbal treatment plan aims to provide gentle support for your body’s systems and restore natural balance. Herbal medicine often works very well in conjunction with modern medicine and can be applied in the treatment of a wide variety of health concerns, some of which are highlighted below.

Fennel, a gentle remedy for digestive cramps

Digestive Health

Herbal medicine offers effective solutions for improving digestion, relieving discomfort, and supporting gut health.

Black cohosh, an effective herbal remedy for menopausal complaints

Women's Health

Medicinal herbs have been used for centuries by women  to help with problems linked to menopause, menstrual complaints, fertility and reproductive health.

Autoimmune Conditions

Herbal medicine lends itself well to the complexities of autoimmune conditions, as many herbs work on multiple body systems simultaneously and herbal treatments are tailored to each client and the unique way the condition affects them. Herbal medicine can help with managing the symptoms of many autoimmune conditions, such as Hashimoto’s, Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Stress, Sleep and Mood Disorders

Healthy sleep and nervous system regulation are one of the pillars of health. Herbal sedatives and anxiolytics can improve your sleep or mood significantly while adaptogenic herbs can improve overall resilience and support you gently in periods of sustained stress.

Client Testimonials

I came to Ellen with a variety of concerns to my well-being which felt interconnected to me... Ellen gave me plenty of time to explain all my symptoms and voice my feelings around these. For the first time in a while, I felt really listened to and seen as a whole person. ...

Having listened carefully to my whole story, Ellen expertly combined a variety of herbal remedies that would work simultaneously on my digestive, respiratory and nervous systems. And they worked a treat! Week by week my well-being improved, supported by regular follow up sessions to assess and respond to my progress.

I can’t thank Ellen enough for her clear thoughts and warm and insightful support, which helped to break the cycle of reoccurring symptoms and lead me towards a more settled state of being.
